STORIES – The Tap Dance Sensation

Calling STORIES simply a tap dance show feels almost reductive. It's a mix of tap, jazz, contemporary dance, theatre and cinema, all coming together to tell a story without a single word.

The performers are genuinely outstanding. Every movement, facial expression and tiny gesture is so detailed and precise that you never feel the absence of dialogue. They're not just dancing, they're acting through their bodies, and the emotional intensity they create is incredible.

There are elements that reminded me of Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story and even The Greatest Showman, particularly in the costumes and visual style. Some moments also brought me back to the Theatre of the Absurd, which I studied at school. It's fascinating how a contemporary production can bring together so many different theatrical influences.

At its heart, STORIES explores ambition, loss of innocence, manipulation and power dynamics, sometimes blurring the line between performance and reality. Whether that ambiguity is entirely intentional is something I'd love to explore further with its creator.

The lighting design is particularly impressive, the costumes are beautiful, and the original score deserves special attention. Music and movement work together to create an emotional impact that words probably couldn't achieve in quite the same way.

STORIES is a remarkable example of how dance can become a complete theatrical language, rather than simply a performance.

A longer review, including insights from creator Romain Rachline Borgeaud, will follow.
